I know there is alot out there to do, problem is when all you have done for the last 10 years is party and drink its hard to figure out how to do them without the drink. Its weird to me before I got sober I did not realize how much the drinking and the partying was a part of not just mine but everyone elses life as well. I am sitting here right now listeneing to some country and really all I here is songs about drinking. I am not upset about this but it seems that it is everywhere in my face and others trying to stay sober out there. Funny thing is I like listening to the music when it is tough like that and talks about drinking and escaping the way you feel. Yet when I try and do the same thing they are talking about it turns into a really bad day. LOL
Anyways just thought I would start my new blog with something like that. Music is a trigger for me, it makes me want to drink and sit on the porch and get drunk. LOL , does not mean that is what i am going to do though. Hopefully some of you can relate to what i am saying and make you and me feel less alone in this big world. We are not alone

So happy to be the first!
ReplyDeleteIt's an incredible journey that you've embarked on. It’s a journey that you will be on for the rest of your life. The progress and growth that you've made over the past few years is incredible. Your growth is inspiring and your Blog will positively influence other people who are currently struggling with alcoholism. I anticipate that it will also give their family members a glimpse into the mind of an alcoholic, which will help them with their own personal struggles.
When your sober everything seems to be so much better! Everybody is happy to be around each other!
I always knew that you were capable of quitting but you’re the one that took back your life from the bottle that was slowly killing you and everything you loved. I thought we were going to lose you forever at one point and I feared that I wouldn’t get the chance to talk to you ever again.
I can only imagine how tough it must be when drinking is literally everywhere. It fills the radio waves, restaurants, birthday parties, holidays and practically every other activity. Your fortitude to say NO is powerful. If you can stop drinking you can pretty much do anything in my book. If you put your mind to it, you no know that you can accomplish it.
Now that you’ve stopped drinking your mentally as strong as your exterior and you can and will continue to be an inspiration to others struggling with their own personal problems.
I love you Bro and will do anything and everything I can to support you.
In the last 3 months i have pretty much joined my sober fiance who has been sober for almost 2 years now. All in all NO i can not call myself sober because i do drink. I havent had a drink in over a month not really sure because i dont keep track. But lately that i have been saying "no thanks i'll have water" ive noticed all the things that i have never notice before. Things change. Maybe not for a recovering alcholic but for myself i find myself asking... well why am i really drinking anyway? and i can never fully justify it and thats why lately i have chosen not to! It never makes me feel better about anything! and its a waste of money! I have also noticed who my real friends are... ummm shit do i even have any friends anymore! LOL.. it seems as though they can justify drinking almost everynight of the week! ... well... to have fun right??? you cant have fun sober!! well i have found out that YES you can have fun being sober.. you actually find yourself DOING the things that you always said that you would get around to doing! LIke bike rides and walks!
ReplyDeleteAnyway i guess what im trying to say is that now that i have slowed down or whatever you want to call it ive been really happy with what i have seen! and i feel great!
A friend of mine asked me.. well ok if it feels so great and you have done it for over a month now do you think that you will ever drink again... Well i ask myself that as well!! I tell myself well if i dont really drink anyway why dont i just stop!! I guess i just dont really look at it like a stop or go thing because i dont have a problem with it like some people.. so we will see!! so far it hasnt even been on my mind when the lastime it was that i had a drink till this blog! so hmmm.... why not make it 2 months 3 months 6 months or forever!! the count begins!!
I am Jon's mom, friend, supporter, and probably the one he hurt the most. Jon may have given up and times and drowned into the bottle but I never gave up on him. I could see glimpses of the son I once had. When Jon stopped drinking I had to go to a doctor because I couldnt seem to get my energy back I wanted to sleep all the time. My doctor told me it was because I had not really slept deeply for years. I still jump when the phone rings late at night and I still occationally have anxiety. I never think of Jon as cured I think of him as a work in progress. This blog represents him getting better and more secure in his (forever) battle with alcohol addiction. The willingness to share and help another person in trouble inspires me. Now 2 years of a son that is alcohol free is like winning the lottery no actually it is better. It is so nice to be able to say "I'm so proud of my son" my heart is heavy and my eyes are filled with tears ....only this time it is for a good reason Mom
